They suck……at marketing
Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters
As a huge fan of the books, right from the start, I was apprehensive about the movie. But, I really think they did a good job! First and foremost, you need to see this film as a stand alone film though, and don’t focus too much on what they ‘missed from the book’ or added. Every scene and detail they added, actually enhanced the storyline and made things make much more sense, There were times I found myself saying ‘Oh thats smart! That’s a really clever way of doing that’. If you’re expecting a carbon copy of the book, you will be disappointed I think. But in my opinion, the new elements make it a BETTER story, and provide much more action, which I feel the 1st book lacked.
The casting is perfect for every character! I have never seen a more perfectly cast movie. The performances were just beautiful. Zoey, Danila, Lucy, Dominic…all perfect for their roles.
It makes me sad to think it’s not doing well in cinema’s because it will be a real shame to not make the other books into a film too (Which are more plot based and more action based.)
The only criticism I have with this movie is not with the movie itself but with the promotion team behind it. The campaign they did was awful and doesn’t represent the film at all. The tag line ‘They suck at school’ is irrelevant to the story. They should have used the common Dhampir saying ‘They come first’. It would have provided more mystery and is more in line with what the series is about. The fact they are vampires or teenagers is pretty irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. The posters were dire and pretty much just copies of Mean Girls. The marketing team let the movie down, and with the right posters and publicity, this could have been every bit the hit it deserves to be.
Definitely worth going to see though, just for the Twilight jokes and Rose’s sassyness.
